At the conclusion of each season the Maine Junior Black Bears awards multiple program-wide awards that honor individuals with an exemplary commitment to the values expressed in our Mission Statement. Recipients are announced at our annual Ice Out Event.
This award is presented each year to a second-year Bantam player who has best exemplified the qualities of sportsmanship, perseverance, and dedication to hockey during his/her career in BYH/PVHC and MJBB.
This award is presented each year to a MJBB volunteer whose long-time devotion to the promotion of youth hockey best exemplifies the values expressed in the MJBB Mission Statement.
This award is presented each year to a local area business or individual, whose long-time commitment to the promotion of the youth hockey experience and has impacted our program and community in a positive manner.
These awards recognize all the hard work and time our coaches put in throughout the season. The awards will be presented to one Tier II or III and one Tier IV or Learn to Skate / Learn to Play coach who exemplifies our mission.
Our mission: The Maine Junior Black Bears are committed to providing a high-quality competitive Tier II, III and IV hockey program to our youth while focusing on instilling the values of respect, sportsmanship, self-esteem, teamwork, discipline, and responsibility in its players. The MJBB will provide a positive environment on and off the ice, to challenge its players to grow to their fullest potential in all aspects of the game and as individuals. Our program will foster an appreciation for youth hockey among the Greater Bangor Area children, along with life-long lessons that include discipline, competitive spirit, team play, an appreciation for rules, safety, and a love of the game!

Jacob Dubay, second year bantam, Paul Ivey, Webmaster and Rick Gunn of Gunn's Sport Shop, were awarded the Bear Claw Award at the annual Ice Out Event, March 23, Jeff's Catering.
Jacob was recognized for his leadership qualities, great attitude and willingness to work hard both at hockey and academically.
Paul was recognized for helping out wherever there was a need and supporting others in their roles.
Rick was recognized for his many years of support of youth hockey in our area. He is a pillar for our sport and our many years of success.

Jim Ireland, Sponsorship, Craig Costello, Treasurer and Cody Lally, second year bantam, were awarded the Bear Claw Award at our annual Ice Out event, April 2.
Jim was recognized for his efforts of fundraising for the organization. The money raised will have a significant impact on the organization.
Craig was recognized for his tireless efforts to keep our financials in order and support the organization.
Cody was recognized for his leadership and commitment to the program as well as his volunteer efforts.
All three represent the organization well and we thank them for their service!
Chris Tanis and Caven Hagerty were presented with the Rams Horn Awards at our end of year "Ice Out" on April 1, 2013. Caven has demonstrated leadership qualities and commitment to BYH through volunteering with the Learn to Play program and Mites during the past several years. Chris Tanis has coached at BYH, offered skills clnics, assisted with evaluations and shared his love and enthusiasm for the game of hockey with the youth in BYH.
At the annual "Ice Out" Event in April, 2012, BYH awarded the Rams Horn Award to Alex Marsh, a second year Bantam who exemplified leadership, enthusiasm and good sportsmanship throughout his youth hockey career and is a great example of what youth hockey players should strive to be. Rich Powell and Cheryl Derrah were both awarded the Rams Horn Award as dedicated volunteers to the association over many years and for their leadership in BYH.
At the annual "Ice Out" event in April, 2011 we presented the Rams Horn Award to Patrick Lee who is a second-year Bantam. Patrick is a great example of sportsmanship, leadership and volunteerism within Bangor Youth Hockey and our community.
The volunteer Rams Horn Award was presented to Chris Lander for his many years as a dedicated coach and board member to BYH who has always gone beyond the call of duty in assisting with whatever was asked of him at BYH.
Vinny Caccese, a second year Bantam, was given the Rams Horn Award at our annual "Ice Out" event. He was recognized for his leadership, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey as he played on both the high school team and for BYH the entire season. Congratulations Vinny and thank you for being such a great role model for our youth hockey players!
Husband and wife duo, Jeff Silverstein and Gayle Middleton, were recognized at the annual "Ice Out" event for their years of service to BYH. Jeff has served as a coach and board member since the 90s and Gayle has served the last four years on the BYH board, the last three as President. Their dedication and enthusiasm for the BYH program is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your leadership!
Bangor Youth Hockey held its annual end-of-season ice cream social at the J.F. Doughty School Monday night. Each year at the ice cream social BYH gives its Ram's Horn Awards to an volunteer and a second-year Bantam who exemplify the qualities BYH looks for in outstanding role models and young athletes. Melissa Huston and Jordan Harnish were awarded the Ram's Horn Award for outstanding volunteer and skater, respectively. Melissa is a long-time volunteer with BYH. Jordan was recognized for his work with younger skaters in Bangor Youth Hockey.
